Water is often taken for granted until it becomes scarce. For billions, it is no longer an accessible basic right, and vulnerable groups -such as visually impaired students at Thika School -have previously suffered from limited access.
World Water Day is a timely moment to reflect on how stakeholders across regions are not only responding to water challenges but actively shaping sustainable water solutions.
In this spirit, Davis & Shirtliff in partnership with Kenya Defence Forces through Combat Engineers installed a 7.5kW solar water pump that delivers 10 m³/hr at Thika School for the Visually Impaired.
This year’s theme, “Where water flows, equality grows,” highlights that access to water is not only a basic need but also a catalyst for inclusion, dignity, and opportunity.
The commissioning ceremony was graced by the presence of the Managing Director Edward Davis, and the General Manager, Branches Margaret Kuchio. Also present were Davis & Shirtliff Rongai Manager Allan Ouma, Thika Manager Benson Kanyuru, and Sustainability Manager Brian Nyagol, who facilitated the project.
